My cat was riveted by the appearance of a bird outside the window. I took advantage of the moment and captured this.

Stumpy the Cat, c. 1993-2004
cat
Stumpy was the world’s greatest house cat. She showed up during my college years at my parents, a stray kitten with a mangled tail. We took her in, fixed her up, and she grew to love us. She moved in with my wife and me a year or so after we were married. Then she moved with us to the new house in Cincinnati. She loved to go outside during the day to play and hunt in the yard. On the Michigan game day 2004 she did not come back. I found her two days later, in the woods behind our neighbor’s house, where she’d been killed by a dog. Toughest pet loss I’ve ever experienced. Read more about it here. (Warning: Not pleasant for dog lovers.)

With the family of my wife we joined a bike tour and also the dog (beagle) of my brother in law wanted to go with us. But walking about 40 km is to much so we took him with us in a "dogy bag"

Schipperke Dog

I wanted to post a shot of our newest Dog, number 4. Pixie is a Schipperke Dog, also known as a "Belgian Barge Dog."

I’ve had several friends on Flickr who have asked to see what a Schipperke looks like… Pixie is 14 pounds. 4 years old.

She and Harry, at 220-pounds and as tall as a Great Dane, makes quite a pair! At some point I’ll get a good shot of them together…

Unfortunately, we’re not sure that Harry recognizes her as a "dog," he all but totally ignores her. But she gets along great with our Yellow Lab and Collie.

Fishing Cat Kittens Explore Their Yard at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo

Visitors to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo can now see its three-month-old fishing cat kittens exploring, playing, climbing and fishing on Asia Trail. The kittens and their mother, Electra, will be on exhibit from approximately 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, weather permitting. They are most active in the morning.

The kittens’ birth May 18 marked an important milestone: this is the first time fishing cats have successfully bred and produced young at the National Zoo. Initially, Asia Trail staff monitored Electra and her offspring through a closed-circuit camera, which allowed the family time to bond. Over the last few months, keepers have worked closely with the cats to build trust and train behaviors that help animal care staff evaluate their health. Zoo visitors can see their father, Lek, in a neighboring yard.

To follow the kittens’ development, read Great Cat Communiqué and check for news on the Zoo’s Facebook page and Twitter feed.

All the thumbnails of videos matching the tag "cat" submitted to YouTube over the past year. About 33,300 in all. The thumbnails are placed on the graph to create a heat signature showing the rise in activity at YouTube.

Vertically, the thumbnails are positioned by the time-of-day they were submitted, and horizontally by the day of the year.

As you can see, YouTube has seen phenomenal growth over the past year.
