medium_2741653860There are many reasons for you to have a pet dog. Sometimes you need a companion, while other times, you want to teach your children responsibility. An obedient dog is certainly an ideal dog. This can only be accomplished through training. This article will provide some helpful ideas for doing just that!

When doing crate training, train your dog incrementally rather than trying to do it all at once. When they seem comfortable in it with the door open, try shutting the gate and feed them treats through the wires. Keep them in the crate for a small duration and slowly increase that duration. If the puppy becomes upset, you may be progressing too quickly.

When your dog behaves well in a training session, reward him in a calm manner. If your pet successfully completes a task, then reward him only if he/she is calm. Don’t get too excited, though, as your excitement may cause them to break their concentration. Remain calm, expect the dog to be calm and provide appropriate rewards.

Your dog should be eating the right amount of healthy food. Eating a poor diet will negatively affect your dog in many ways. If your dog isn’t getting what it needs to stay healthy, it could really struggle to find the energy for training or may act out in other ways. Providing a dog with fresh water and a high protein diet can have an astounding affect on their health and attitude.

Teething is painful, and providing chew toys helps alleviate the pain. Keep items that are potentially more painful out of reach. The right chew toys should be given to the pup immediately. If the puppy is suffering any pain from teething, freeze a wet washcloth for him or her to chew on.

Approach any unfamiliar dog with care. Walk slowly toward him and allow the dog to sniff your hand before trying to pet the dog. As you do this, you give the dog an opportunity to acclimate to your scent and become used to your presence. Dogs that know your smell are less likely to fear you and more likely to obey commands.

So it is time for you now to begin training your dog. The tips here really are priceless. A well-behaved dog is a happy dog. However, training does take time. But it will be well-worthwhile when your dog follows your commands and becomes the ideal companion! Use any ideas that seem like they might work in your home.
